The Indonesian KPU Says It Has Anticipated The Threat Of Hoaxes In The 2024 Pilkada

Chairman of the Indonesian General Elections Commission (KPU) Mochammad Afifuddin said that his party had anticipated the threat of hoaxes in the 2024 Pilkada.

"We have a team together with several agencies, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Ministry of Communication and Digital), and so on, namely to anticipate hoaxes," Afif said quoting Antara.

He also said that his party was working with non-governmental organizations such as the Indonesian Antifitnah Society (Mafindo) to ensure that no information circulated that could cloud the situation.

"Yes, basically, all parties must play a role, both of them maintain a conducive situation," he said.

In addition to hoaxes, he also said that the Indonesian KPU anticipates polarization that uses dangerous issues during the 2024 Pilkada.

Previously, the National Police Chief, General Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo said that hoax news or misinformation on social media was the highest threat in the 2024 Pilkada.

At the 2024 Regional Government Implementation National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas), at Sentul International Convention Center (SICC), Bogor Regency, West Java, Thursday (7/11), the National Police Chief assessed that hoax news must be an important point that must be anticipated because not all people can distinguish true and false information.

"There is one addition that colleagues may also have to follow in relation to the potential for vulnerability that occurs on social media, because at this time if we follow, there are 33 billion social media interactions, of which 38 percent are positive, 23 percent are neutral, and 29 percent are negative," said the National Police Chief, quoted from an official statement.
