Meeting In Brazil, Puan And Chair Of The Turkish Parliament Discuss Form For Palestine

JAKARTA - The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, held a bilateral meeting with the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmus in Brazil. In this meeting, the two discussed the plan to form a forum for the independence of Palestine.

Puan met with the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmus on the sidelines of the 10th G20 Parliamentary Speaker's Summit (P20) which was held in the Brazilian capital, Brasilia, Friday, November 8 local time.

To Numan Kurtulmus, Puan expressed hope that the two countries would strengthen cooperation, including cooperation in dealing with global problems. He stated that Indonesia and Turkey can continue to support each other in international forums, including contributing to global peace and prosperity.

"Regarding the Palestinian issue, the Indonesian House of Representatives will continue to work closely with the Turkish Parliament to support Palestinian independence. We need to end the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza," said Puan.

Together, we need to push for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, grant access to humanitarian aid; and support the realization of a two-state solution."

Puan also encourages de-escalation of violence in the Middle East, including the creation of peace in Lebanon.

"I hope that all parties can refrain from actions that increase the use of violence in the Middle East," said Puan.

At the meeting, the House of Representatives and the Turkish Parliament also agreed to form a forum for the Speaker of Parliament for countries friendly with Palestine to help create peace in Gaza.

This forum is said to be not limited to Muslim countries only, but also open to countries where the majority of the population is non-Muslim if they want to join. The purpose of establishing the parliamentary chairman forum is to help Palestinian independence.

In addition to the Palestinian issue, Puan mentioned the issue of eradicating transational crimes and terrorism in her meeting with Numan Kurtulmus.

"In the context of bilateral relations between the two countries, I encourage an increase in several strategic agendas, including cooperation in eradicating transnational crimes and eradicating terrorism," said Bung Karno's grandson.

Puan emphasized that the DPR is committed to continuing to support bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Turkey, especially cooperation between parliaments. This is because Indonesia and Turkey have solid and growing bilateral relations.

"Our hope is that Turkey will support Indonesia to achieve the ideals of Indonesia Gold 2045, namely for Indonesia to become a developed country in 2045, 100 years from Indonesia's independence," explained Puan.

The former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture also supports various improvements in cooperation between Turkey and Indonesia in a number of other sectors. Among them, said Puan, includes increasing trade and investment between the two countries, increasing cooperation in the field of defense and security, especially in the context of the strategic defense industry, as well as increasing cooperation in the tourism sector.

I invite more Turkish tourists to visit Indonesia. So far, many Indonesian tourists have visited Turkey," said the first woman to serve as Chair of the Indonesian House of Representatives.

Puan also encouraged the two countries to immediately complete the rounds of negotiations of the Indonesia-Törkiye Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IT-CEPA).

"This agreement is important for both countries to be able to encourage an increase in the trade flow of the two countries and reduce trade barriers currently being faced," said Puan.
