JAKARTA - Poland signed a contract worth 1.3 billion zloty (323.19 million US dollars) to buy a companion vehicle for the domestically produced WR-40 Langusta dual rocket launcher.

Defense Minister Wldyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said the move was part of Poland's ongoing efforts to strengthen its military capability in responding to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

"We will fulfill as many orders as possible, because safety and economy are the main issues," Kosiniak-Kamysz said.

He said the Polish arms industry should be ready to receive more orders as 50 percent of the Polish army's spending will be allocated to the domestic arms industry.

The Polish government will spend 4.1 percent of gross domestic product on defense by 2024, the highest among NATO members for the second year, and promise to increase it to 4.7 percent by 2025.

Vehicles contracted will be delivered in 2028, the Kosiniak-Kamysz said without disclosing the total number of vehicles ordered.

In addition, as part of the contract, modifications to all Langusta WR-40 launchers that have been sent will be made.

The Armed Forces have signed about 100 military contracts by 2024 and dozens more are expected to be signed by the end of this year, Chief General of the Armed Forces, Artur Kuptel, told Reuters in October.
