CENTRAL LOMBOK - Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province appealed to the public to be aware of the appearance of pythons ahead of the rainy season.

"The pythons often appear during the rainy season," said Head of SKW I Lombok BKSDA NTB Bambang Dwidarto in Central Lombok, Antara, Friday, November 8.

He said to anticipate the emergence of pythons, it is hoped that the community will maintain environmental cleanliness, because snakes prefer to live in wet habitats and imbun.

"We hope that residents will regularly clean the weeds in their yard, so that they remain clean and not thick," he said.

The number of pythons that have been caught by officers in Central Lombok during 2024 is quite large and the snakes are then released into their habitat in forest areas.

"Quite a lot of pythons have been caught in people's homes by officers," he said.

Previously, officers from the Central Lombok Regency Fire and Rescue Service arrested a python at the house of a resident of Gamel Village, Jonggat District.

"The evacuated snake was handed over to the West Nusa Tenggara BKSDA and released into its natural habitat," said Head of the Central Lombok Regency Fire and Rescue Service, Supardan.

In addition, the previous week officers also secured a python from the roof of a resident's house in Jontlak Village.

"Our officers remain on standby to help residents catch snakes if found," he said.
