KPU Ensures Simultaneous 2024 Pilkada Is 99 Percent Ready

JAKARTA - KPU chairman Mochammad Afifuddin ensured the readiness of the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Election (Pilkada) which will take place on November 27 is 99 percent ready.

"I want to make sure that the election preparations are 99 percent," said Afifuddin as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, November 7.

He said the KPU had prepared all regional election logistics. In fact, today the KPU throughout Indonesia simultaneously carried out the inauguration of the voting organization group (KPPS).

However, he admitted that there are still some areas that have not been reached because the location is too far away. "But God willing, later on the D day, all the preparations we have carried out," he said.

In addition, Afifuddin also asked for support from the Regional Government, including governors, regents, police, the Indonesian National Army (TNI), and the Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD), to interpret the regional elections as part of the nation's democratic history.

"Pilkada is carried out simultaneously throughout Indonesia on the same day as yesterday's 2024 election," said Afifuddin.

He emphasized that if there are violations and frauds during the regional elections, then firm action will be taken by the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu).

He detailed that the 2024 Simultaneous Pilkada will be attended by 37 provinces, 415 regencies, and 93 cities. The total number of candidate pairs competing in the Simultaneous Pilkada reached 1,557 pairs of candidates, consisting of 1,169 pairs of candidates for regent and deputy regent as well as 285 pairs of candidates for mayor and deputy mayor.

"The number is extraordinary, so we should not waste the momentum of the simultaneous regional elections," he added.

Meanwhile, Plh. Chairman of Bawaslu Lolly Suhenty stated that the agenda of the National Coordination Meeting of the Central Government and Regional Governments in 2024 is a consolidation forum to realize an honest and fair Pilkada.

As an election supervisor, Bawaslu has mapped election vulnerabilities in all regencies, cities, and provinces, as well as analyzed them to become national level vulnerability mappings.

"If we talk about Bawaslu, the perspective is to take precautions so that people do not commit violations," explained Lolly.

He also explained that related to campaign vulnerabilities, aspects that need to be considered include security and order, the use of state facilities, and campaigns in places of worship.

According to him, all stages of regional elections must be considered full of potential vulnerabilities so that Bawaslu remains vigilant. In addition, logistics distribution must be ensured on time.

"The security of the logistics warehouse so that nothing is damaged or nothing is missing, including the suitability of the specifications that have been determined," he concluded.
