"I just congratulated... (to Donald Trump) on his election as President of the United States. His leadership will again be the key to safeguarding the power of our Alliance. I look forward to working with him again to advance peace using power through #NATO," Rutte wrote on X as reported by ANTARA from Sputnik-OANA, Wednesday, November 6.

Rutte expressed hope in a statement that countries in NATO fellowship will continue to increase their defense spending during Trump's second term.

"Presiden terpilih Trump menunjukkan kepemimpinan AS yang kuat selama masa jabatan pertamatannya sebuah periode yang membalikan keadaan belanja pertahanan Eropa, meningkatkan pembayaran beban transatlantik, dan memperkuat kemampuan Aliansi," papar Rutte.

"Two-thirds of Allied countries are now spending at least two percent of their PDDB funds on defense... We must continue this effort to maintain peace and prosperity in North America and Europe," he wrote in the statement.

Rutte stressed that NATO allies are helping the US advance its interests and ensuring its national security, adding that the alliance faces growing global challenges.
