Minister Of BP2MI Asks SBMI To Submit Naughty Companies And LPK To Migrant Workers

JAKARTA - Minister of Protection for Indonesian Migrant Workers/Head of the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI) Abdul Kadir Karding said that cross-ministerial cooperation, national and international labor organizations, to companies are needed in overcoming various questions regarding Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI).

"We realize that we must work together, including with companies as well. We must partner well in building productive relations," said Karding at the BP2MI Office after meeting with the General Chair of the Indonesian Migrant Workers Union (SBMI), Jakarta, Wednesday, October 6.

One of the targets of Karding is the rogue Job Training Institute (LPK) who participates in sending PMI. LPK, said Karding, is not allowed to send PMI because its function is only for training.

"I ask Mas Haryanto, as an activist. If there is company data, LPK data, data on people per naughty person, tell me so that I can immediately take the right steps," said Karding.

Chairman of the Indonesian Migrant Trade Union (SBMI) Hariyanto Suwarno welcomed Karding's steps in opening the door to cooperation with various agencies including SBMI to formulate policies, unravel, find PMI solutions so far. The first problem that needs to be taken care of by BP2MI is governance.

"Kami SBMI tunduk pada undang-undang. Bahwa mekanisme yang kita bangun, mekanisme tripatri, serikat buruh, pemerintah dengan perusahaan itu setara dalam memberikan sebuah masukan untuk kebijakan yang lebih baik. Persoalan pekerja migran ini sudah terjadi berpuluh-puluh tahun. Persoalan pertama adalah terkait dengan buruknya tata kelola," tegas Hariyanto.

"We SBMI comply with the law. That the mechanisms we build, the tripatran mechanism, labor unions, the government and the company are equivalent in providing input for better policies. The problem of migrant workers has been going on for decades. The first issue is related to poor governance," said Hariyanto.
