JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Supervisory Board (Dewas) fired a member of the KPK Task Force for stealing evidence in the form of 1.9 kilograms of gold bars.

Chairman of Dewas KPK, Tumpak Hatorangan Panggabean called the KPK task force person with the initials IGAS. He stole the gold to pay his debt.

"Some of the goods that have been taken and can be categorized as theft or at least embezzlement are mortgaged by the concerned because the concerned needs funds for debt repayment. Quite a lot of the amount (of debt), because the perpetrator involved an obscure forex business", Tumpak told reporters, Thursday, April 8.

To pay his debt, the perpetrator pawned his stolen gold worth IDR 900 million. Although IGAS managed to redeem the gold he pawned by selling the family's inheritance.

"This evidence around March 2021 was successfully redeemed by the person concerned by selling his parents' heritage land in Bali", he said.

Tumpak said the perpetrator did not steal the 1.9 kilograms of gold all at once. He took it gradually starting from January to June 2020.

From this incident, the Dewas KPK held an ethics hearing. In the trial, IGAS was declared in violation of the rules so that it was sentenced severely.

"The tribunal decided that he should be sentenced severely, namely dismissing the person with disrespect", Tumpak said.
