JAKARTA - The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation or PVMBG monitors the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki on Sunday at 23.57 local time or Wita. The eruption lasted for 1,450 seconds and resulted in 6 deaths and 5,468 families being affected.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari explained, the Volcano Authority (PVMBG) raised the status of the Mount Lewotobi Male volcanic activity from level III to IV or 'Awas'.

"People around Mount Lewotobi Male-Laki are aware of the potential for rain lava flooding in rivers that originate at the top of Mount Lewotobi, Male in the event of high-intensity rain," Abdul said in his statement, Monday, November 4.

He said, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of East Flores Regency stated that there were fatalities due to the eruption. The death toll as many as 6 people have been verified. They came from Klatanlo Village, Wulangitang District.

"The volcanic activity of the volcano with a height of 1,584 meters above sea level that occurred on Sunday (3/11) affected a number of villages in three sub-districts," he said.

There are 6 affected villages in Wulangitang District, namely Pululura Village, Nawokote, Hokeng Jaya, Klatanlo, Boru and Boru Kedang.

In Ile Bura Subdistrict, as many as 4 villages were affected, namely in Dulipali, Nobo, Nukolen and Riang Rita Villages, while in Titehena District it affected four villages, namely Konga, Kobasoma, Bonkang Wolomatang and Watowara villages.

BNPB monitors the affected population of 2,734 families / 10,295 people, with details in Wulanggitang District 2,527 families / 9,479 people and Ile Bura 207 families / 816 people.

Currently, the people of Dulipali Village and Lewolaga Village, as well as the Lewolaga Village government have prepared school places as refugee camps.

On the other hand, the East Flores Regency Government has extended the emergency status of the Men's Mount Lewotobi disaster to 96 days, starting from September 27 to December 31, 2024. The decision is contained in the Decree of the East Flores Regent Number: BPBD.300.2.5/020/BID.KL/IX/2024
