UT itself is the 45th State University (PTN) in Indonesia which has long introduced the concept of hybrid and long-distance lectures. This campus has been established since 1984 with campus locations spread across several parts of Indonesia. UT's current accreditation is "A".

Ministers and deputy ministers who graduated from the Open University hold positions at the Ministry of Culture, Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, to the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection.

Djoko Suyanto is the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs who served from 2009-2014. Previously he served as Commander of the Indonesian National Army. In 1990, he received a Bachelor of Political and Social Sciences (FISIP).

After graduating from the Army Staff and Command School (1984), Wiranto entered the Open University, Department of State Administration. Wiranto served as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs in the era of two presidents, namely the era of President Abdurrahman Wahid and President Joko Widodo.

Previously, he was the 19th Minister of Defense and Security of Indonesia with a term of office on March 14, 1998 October 20, 1999. The in-law of the former TNI Commander General TNI (Ret.) Andika Perkasa has received a doctorate from UGM with cum laude predicate. He managed to maintain his dissertation with the title Terrorism in Analytica Philosophy; His relevance with National Resilience.

Giring, who was once popular and big from the band Nidji, has just been inaugurated as Deputy Minister of Culture, accompanying Fadli Zon as Minister of Culture. Previously, Giring continued his studies at Paramadina University with the Department of International Relations Sciences. However, because of his busy schedule, his college was not finished.
