Proven To Have Committed Sexual Violence, Former Lecturer In Gorontalo Sentenced To 4 Years In Prison

GORONTALO - A former lecturer who became a defendant in the sexual violence case in Gorontalo, Rully Sinukun was finally sentenced to four years in prison.

The attorney for the victim Hijrah Lahaling said that his party said he was grateful and satisfied because after fighting for more than a year, finally the prosecutor's demands were granted by the judge.

"Alhamdulillah, the judge accepted and granted the prosecutor's claim, which was that the prison term was cut by more than four years," Hijrah was quoted as saying by ANTARA, Friday, October 25.

He said that although the defendant's attorney had appealed the decision, the judge's decision was an extraordinary effort to uphold justice for victims of sexual violence.

According to him, it is not easy to resolve cases of sexual violence because he and law enforcement officials and all parties who provide support must use a lot of energy and time to resolve the case.

In a trial that took place in the courtroom of Professor Oemar Seno Adji SH of the Gorontalo Class IA District Court, the panel of judges read that the defendant had been detained since May 13, 2024, charged with the Law on the Crime of Sexual Violence (TPKS) Article 5 related to non-physical sexual harassment and Article 6A related to physical sexual harassment.

The perpetrators were also charged with Article 15 letters d and e, so that the sentence was increased by one-third because the perpetrator was an educator and committed sexual violence more than once to more than one victim.

In the indictment, he said, it was stated that the hospital had been proven to have committed a crime of sexual violence against one person or more and was carried out more than once.

"We really salute the judge's decision to grant all the demands of the prosecutor. This proves that there has been sexual violence committed by the perpetrator against the victim," he added.
