JAKARTA - Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen) Abdul Mu'ti said improving the quality of teachers would be the main focus of the Ministry of Education in the future.

Mu'ti said the teacher's quality improvement was specifically related to improving students' numerical and natural science (IPA) capabilities, in accordance with the priorities of the Prabowo-Gibran government, which wants to improve students' abilities in science and technology.

"So education will not only teach and transform knowledge, but also related to fulfilling values in every field of study," said Mu'ti as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, October 24.

Improvement of teacher quality will also include improving counseling guidance (BK) through two approaches, namely improving the quality of BK teachers as well as training for teachers in the field of study to have counseling skills.

Mu'ti also conveyed that the increase in salaries and well-being of teachers had received a portion of the budget in 2025, although she had not been able to mention the exact figure regarding the teacher's salary increase.

Therefore, Mu'ti hopes that improving the welfare of teachers can also be positively correlated with improving the quality of teaching in their respective fields.

"Our hope is that when the welfare of teachers increases, it can be followed by an increased educational spirit. With quality teachers, the process and results of learning will also be of high quality," he said.
