JAKARTA - Indonesian charismatic cleric Uci Turtusi who is familiarly called Abah Uci alias Abuya Uci has passed away. The deceased is remembered as an outgoing, friendly and sociable scholar.

This was conveyed by Habib Nizar bin Yahya, who told of the beginning of the meeting with Abuya Uci on the orders of his uncle Habib Lutfi bin Yahya.

"I started to get close to Abah Uci, thanks to Habib Lutfi. In 2018 I was asked by Habib Lutfi to often play with Abah Uci, he is a good person," said Habib Nizar.

"Not only that, I was asked by Habib Lutfi to study from Abah Uci, who is known to have extensive knowledge and good morals. It was Habib Lutfi's mandate that in a month I could visit Abah Uci 2-3 times," he said.

One Nahdliyin said the late Abuya Uci was a friend of KH Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur). Abuya's figure is very well known, including to Gusdurian activists.

Based on, the closeness of Abuya Uci with Gus Dur is evidenced by the attitude of these two scholars who support each other in strengthening the knowledge of religion and the creed of Muslims in Indonesia. During his lifetime, Gus Dur served several times in recitation at the Cilongok Islamic Boarding School.

Apart from Gus Dur, the cleric who is also close to Abuya Uci is Habib Maulana Lutfi bin Yahya who currently lives in Pekalongan, Central Java.

Abuya Uci is the son of the late Abuya Dimyathi Cilongok, a kiai who is highly respected by the people of Banten. On a daily basis, Abuya Dimyathi Cilongok teaches the Koran to his students. Abuya Dimyati also routinely conducts weekly recitation for the community outside the Cilongok Islamic boarding school.

Abuya Uci's popularity in Banten is on par with other figures and scholars in Indonesia such as Habib Lutfi bin Yahya and Abuya Muhtadi.

His lectures, which consistently use Sundanese, make this character increasingly loved by various groups. Besides being easy to understand, lectures in Sundanese are considered by the people of Banten to give their own spirit when listened to.

The name Abuya Uci is well known outside the island of Java. When holding weekly recitations at Pesantren Cilongok, scholars or figures from countries in the world are often visited, such as figures from Egypt, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, India, Iraq, Morocco who have attended Abuya Uci's recitation.

Their love for Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur) 's friends is evidenced by the presence of millions of people during the Birthday of the Prophet and Haul Tuan Syekh Abdul Qadir Al-Jaelani Commemoration which is held regularly by Pesantren Cilongok.

Millions of worshipers from various regions came to Cilongok to attend recitation and prayer to Abuya Uci. He said, the event which gave its own blessings to the Tangerang residents was held once a year and always boomed and flooded one Cilongok village.
