Anticipating Ahead Of The Pilkada, Central Kalimantan Governor: If It Rains Inter Logistics, How To Vote For Floods

JAKARTA - The Provincial Government (Pemprov) of Central Kalimantan (Kalteng) has mapped disaster-prone areas, especially floods, as an anticipatory measure ahead of the implementation of the Pilkada, November 27, 2024.

"Seeing the development of regional conditions, I have discussed with the Acting Regional Secretary to immediately hold a cross-sector coordination meeting related to the implementation of this simultaneous regional election," said Central Kalimantan Governor Sugianto Sabran in Palangka Raya, Monday, October 21, which was confiscated by Antara.

According to him, based on predictions from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) which stated that a number of areas in the local area had begun to enter the rainy season, so this condition needed to be a common concern.

Sugianto said a number of areas in various districts and cities in Central Kalimantan are prone to flooding, including in West Kotawaringin, Kapuas, riverbanks in the Barito watershed, and others.

"If the rainy season alone doesn't matter because delivering election logistics can still be done. But if it's flooded, how to vote, how about those who are displaced and others," he explained.

The governor emphasized that this condition or potential must be discussed further and can be anticipated together, especially by election organizers, both the General Election Commission (KPU), and the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) and other related parties.

Head of the Central Kalimantan Disaster and Fire Management Agency (BPBPK) Ahmad Toyib said that based on the progress of the condition report in the field as of October 20, 2024 at 19.00 WIB, currently three districts are starting to be hit by rain that has an impact on flooding, namely Murung Raya Regency, North Barito and Pulang Pisau.

The flood incident included 13 sub-districts consisting of 50 sub-districts/villages. Then there were 5,279 families (KK) or 16,623 people affected by the flood, 57 public facilities, and 4,625 housing buildings.

"Currently there are four health posts available, and four public kitchens are available," he explained.

He said flood management efforts were continuously carried out by joint teams, both from the provincial government and from each district government.
