South Papua's Quarantine Has Failed 10 Smugglings At Mopah Airport, Merauke

JAKARTA - South Papua's quarantine from January to October 2024 has handled 10 smuggling cases through Mopah Airport, Merauke left the area.

Head of the South Papua Quarantine Office, Cahyono, explained to Antara, Saturday (19/10) that the smuggling cases that were successfully uncovered were not only protected animals and plants, but also their processed products.

It was thwarted by the smuggling of various items that were not equipped with the documents after officers at the airport, especially the suspicious cargo section, with items to be sent.

"The officers on duty at Mopah airport managed to uncover the package that was to be sent outside Papua after being suspicious when passing X-rays and examining carefully," said Cahyono.

He explained, during 2024 the smuggling cases handled were on March 25 as many as two kilograms of deer horn failed to be smuggled and on April 19 there were 157 lizards and lizards.

Then, on April 19, there were two kilograms of Timor deer horn and animal head, on April 20 there were two cases, namely 33 Soa Payung and 4.5 kilograms ofgarwood and on June 15 as many as 22 orchid seedlings.

On July 3, as much as 15 kilograms of mixed meat, on August 21, three kilograms of casuari hair failed to be smuggled, on October 12, there were Timor deer horns and deer skull bones of one kilogram, 0.3 kilograms of kasuari bones and nine keys to casuari nails.

"The last case handled was the failure to send two kilograms of fish bubbles to Batam," said Cahyono.
