The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) confirmed that the meeting between its deputy chairman Alexander Marwata and Eko Darmanto was not related to the investigation process for alleged gratification and money laundering (TPPU) was carried out.
This was conveyed by KPK spokesman Tessa Mahardika in response to Alexander's investigation by the Polda Metro Jaya on Tuesday, October 15. He said the meeting being investigated occurred when the Deputy for Prevention and Monitoring of the KPK was examining the assets report of the former Head of Yogyakarta Customs and Excise.
The investigation was carried out because of public pressure. At that time, Eko Darmanto was in the spotlight for showing off his wealth or flexing on social media.
"The meeting between Mr. AM and ED occurred when the LHKPN ED examination took place, namely in the realm of prevention," Tessa told reporters at the KPK's Merah Putih building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Friday, October 18.
Tessa then detailed that the meeting between Alexander and Eko took place on March 9, 2023. They did not meet secretly, but were accompanied by two staff members and were known to be other leaders.
Alexander, continued Tessa, also asked Eko to submit a report on the alleged corruption he brought to the Directorate of Public Reports and Complaints (PLPM).
Tessa said that Eko's determination as a suspect by the KPK leadership was only carried out around April 2023. This determination was decided after the Director of PP LHKPN submitted a note to the Director of Investigation regarding the submission of a copy of the wealth audit report on April 5, 2023.
"In his follow-up, ED's brother was named a suspect by the KPK leadership collectively collegial," said the spokesman with the investigator's background.
