19 People Died, Including Children As A Result Of Israeli Attacks On Schools, No Water To Put Out Fires

JAKARTA - A total of 19 Palestinians including children were killed on Thursday after an Israeli attack hit a school in Greater Java in the northern Gaza Strip that houses refugees.

Dozens of people were also injured in the attack, local Health Ministry official Medhat Abbas said.

"There's no water to extinguish the fire. There's nothing going on," he said.

As previously reported, Israeli airstrikes also killed 11 Palestinians in Gaza City. Israeli troops sent tanks to the Greater Java region which is also inhabited by refugees.

Residents of Jabalia said Israeli forces blew up a number of houses from the air, with tank fire and by placing bombs in buildings before firing them remotely.

Gaza's civil service said it evacuated several injured people from a school housing Palestinian refugees who were on fire after being hit by Israeli tank fire.

Residents said Israeli forces isolated Beit Hanoun, Jabalia, and Beit Lahiya in the northern tip of the enclave from Gaza City, blocking movement except for families with permits to heed evacuation orders and leave the three cities.

"We have written our death record, and we will not leave Jabalia," a resident told Reuters on Thursday, October 17.
