JAKARTA - The Employment Social Security Administration Agency (BPJS) provides Manpower guarantees to the General Election Commission (KPU) ad hoc officers and the Jayapura Regency Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu).

BPJS Ketenagakerjaan gave guarantees to ad hoc officers including the district election committee (PPD), the voting committee (PPS) and the polling group (KPPS).

Acting (Pj) Jayapura Regent Semuel Siriwa welcomed the cooperation between the election organizers and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan.

"We think with the support of BPJS Employment or the term insurance to workers in Jayapura Regency is very good," he said, quoting Antara.

According to the Acting Regent, in principle, local governments strongly support cooperation between election organizers and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan.

"Far from that, what is needed now is what kind of follow-up is so that the workforce including the KPU and Bawaslu ad hoc can get protection in the implementation of the 2024 regional head election (Pilkada)," he said.

He explained that the process of providing BPJS Employment protection must be rushed because the timing of the Pilkada is getting closer.

"We hope that the follow-up of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan to ad hoc officers who are residents of the Regency will be rushed, while ASN and people outside of ad hoc can be carried out in stages," he said.

He asked the Manpower and Transmigration Office (Disnakertrans) to coordinate the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan insurance issue with other OPDs in Jayapura Regency.

"Of course we really hope that BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, which is a central government program, can be successful in the regions with the involvement of local governments directly," he said.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the General Elections Commission (KPU) of Jayapura Regency, Efra J Tunya, said that financing regarding accidents and deaths of ad hoc officers was not included in the 2024 Pilkada budget.

"The initial budget when the preparation was the cost of guaranteeing accidents and deaths came in but after the rationalization of the budget was abolished," he said.

However, his party is still waiting for instructions from the Indonesian KPU, what steps should be taken to provide protection to 95 PPD officers, 432 PPS officers and 2,296 KPPS officers.

"From the meetings we held with provincial and district KPUs, the city in Papua received the result that the protection of ad hoc officers needed to be carried out a little to release responsibility from us to the authorities in terms of work accidents to deaths, namely BPJS Ketenagakerjaan," he said.
