As A Result Of The COVID-19 Pandemic, Baznas Sets A Nominal Zakat Al-fitr Of IDR 35 Thousand Per Person

JAKARTA - Tangerang City Baznas has determined the amount or nominal value of zakat fitrah for the month of Ramadan 1442 Hijriyah amounting to IDR 35,000 per person. This price fixing refers to an equalized rice price of IDR 14,000 per kilogram or IDR 10,000 per liter.

Head of Baznas Kota Tangerang, HM Aslie Elhusyairy said the determination of the amount of zakat fitrah was the result of coordination with the Tangerang City MUI, Ministry of Religion, Religious Courts and regional apparatus organizations (OPD).

This year's nominal zakat fitrah compared to last year is different because it has decreased. Last year, Baznas determined the amount of zakat fitrah per person, namely Rp. 40,000.

"Because this year there is a pandemic and it has caused changes in economic conditions, adjustments have been made," he said in a statement quoted by Antara, Friday, April 2.

HM Aslie explained that the pandemic has caused economic hardship that has affected not only people with weak economies but also the middle class. This is the reason for the consideration of determining the amount of zakat fitrah which is equivalent to Rp.35,000.

He explained that zakat fitrah is measured based on the staple food, generally rice consumed daily with a minimum dose of 2.5 kilograms or 3.5 liters per person. In accordance with the provisions of Islamic law and the muzaki or zakat giver can submit zakat fitrah to amil or zakat administrators in the form of money.

"For example, if the muzaki consumes rice daily at a price of Rp. 12,000 per liter, it means zakat fitrah if it is in the form of Rp. 42,000. Just adjust it to the habits of daily rice consumption. Therefore we provide special notes on leaflets and on zakat coupon sheet, ”he said.

HM Aslie said that the determination of the amount of zakat fitrah money is expected to be a guide for the people of Tangerang City because not all people pay zakat fitrah using rice but there are also those who pay zakat fitrah using money.

After determining the amount of zakat fitrah, his party will distribute zakat fitrah coupons through zakat collection units (UPZ) which are spread across the city of Tangerang. He appealed to Muslims to pay zakat fitrah through the nearest mosques or UPZ.

He hopes that since the beginning of Ramadan, people can pay zakat fitrah. So that the zakat that is paid will be distributed quickly and will be very beneficial for the poor and those affected by the COVID-19 disaster.

"Later we will distribute zakat fitrah coupons to the local UPZ-UPZ. We hope that people will pay zakat fitrah since the beginning of Ramadan. So that we can distribute them in the third week of Ramadan," he said.
