KPK Will Recall Former East Kalimantan Governor Awang Faroek Regarding Mining Permits

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will recall former Governor of East Kalimantan (Kaltim) Awang Faroek Ishak as a witness to alleged corruption related to mining business permits (IUP). This step was taken because he did not fulfill the investigator's summons on Wednesday, October 2.

"Witness AFI asked for a reschedule," said KPK spokesman Tessa Mahardika to reporters in a written statement, Thursday, October 3.

Rescheduling, continued Tessa, was also carried out on another witness with the initials ROC.

The witness in question is Rudy Ong Chandra as Commissioner of PT Sepiak Jaya Kaltim; PT Cahaya Bara East Kalimantan; PT Bunga Jadi Lestari; PT Anugerah Pancaran Bulan; and shareholders of 5 percent PT Tara Indonusa Coal.

Furthermore, Tessa also said that a witness was absent from the investigator's summons. "Witness WWH as Head of the Energy and Mineral Resources Office of East Kalimantan Province was not present without information," he said.

Based on the information obtained, the witness in question for Tessa is Wahyu Widhi Heranata. These witnesses should have been examined at the East Kalimantan BPKP Representative Office.

Previously reported, the KPK said it was investigating allegations of corruption related to mining business permits (IUP) in East Kalimantan. The investigation was carried out since 19 September.

In this case, three suspects have been named. The KPK has also searched a number of locations in East Kalimantan, including the house of former East Kalimantan Governor Awang Faroek Ishak.

In addition, the anti-corruption commission has also asked the Directorate General of Immigration to prevent three people from leaving the country for six months. They are Awang Faroek Ishak and his son, Payang Dona Walfiares Tania or Payang Donna Faroek.
