Weather Anomaly In Mataram, Residents Must Be Alert To Potential Disasters

MATARAM - The City Government (Pemkot) of Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province, appealed to the public to be aware of the weather anomaly that is currently happening and has the potential to cause various disasters.

"Climate anomalies can cause drought as well as high rainfall on the other side, so we must remain vigilant," said Mataram Mayor Tri Budiprayitno in Mataram, Antara, Wednesday, October 2.

Moreover, he said, from September 30 to December 31, 2024, Mataram City has established a drought emergency alert status because several indications in a number of sub-districts in Mataram have decreased clean water discharge, so they must be assisted by clean water injection from PTAM Giri Win.

But yesterday (Tuesday 1/10), he continued, the rain began to fall with moderate intensity, not long and not evenly distributed. Thus, the current weather conditions cannot be predicted.

Therefore, he continued, the public must remain vigilant, especially in coastal areas, which are prone to coastal abrasion every year due to tidal waves.

"Yesterday we asked the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to check the coastal area. Thank God, so far conditions are still under control," he said.

In addition, his party has also asked the Mataram City Health Office (Dinkes) to take steps to anticipate the emergence of various types of diseases during the transitional season or transitional transition.

The information received, the diseases that usually appear during the transition season are respiratory tract infections such as flu, cough, smell disorders, taste problems, fever, sore throat, muscle aches and joints, headaches, dizziness, and even shortness of breath, and various other complaints.

In addition, he said, the potential for dengue fever as a result of breeding mosquitoes and the lack of public awareness in implementing 3M (Depletioning, Closing, and Fertilizing) plus PSN (Eradication of Mosquito Nests) must also be anticipated.

The reason is, during the transition season cases of dengue fever have tended to increase because mosquitoes are easier to breed during the rainy season and the weather is humid.

"For this reason, we have asked the Health Office to immediately take anticipatory steps," he said.
