JAKARTA - Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insists Iran made a big mistake and will pay for it, after Tehran launched nearly 200 missiles into Israel on Tuesday night local time.
Iran's ballistic missile Salvo made nearly 10 million people take refuge in bomb shelters as projectiles and interceptors exploded in the sky, quoted from The Times of Israel Oct. 2.
"Iran made a big mistake tonight and they will pay for it," PM Netanyahu said.
About 181 missiles were launched in the attack, according to Israeli officials. Meanwhile, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said they intercepted "large numbers" of the missile.
Israel's air defenses are "effective," the IDF said. The US also participated in Israel's defenses, either by detecting threats from Iran before and intercepting several missiles, according to the military.
The IDF said there was an "isolation" impact in central Israel and several more impacts in southern Israel. They stressed that there was no damage to the "competence" of the Israeli Air Force (IAF) in the attack, saying the IAF aircraft, air defense, and air traffic control were operating normally.
The attack on Israel has been "failed" and "failed thanks to Israel's air defense system, which is the most sophisticated in the world," Prime Minister Netanyahu said.
"Rezim in Iran does not understand our determination to defend ourselves and our determination to avenge our enemies," he said.
Iran launched Tuesday night's attack in retaliation for the attack that killed Hamas Political Bureau Head Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah Leader Hassan Nasrallah and Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) Deputy Commander Brigadier General Abbas Nilforoushan.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard said it was targeting three Israeli military bases.
Meanwhile, a senior Iranian official told Reuters the order to launch a missile into Israel had been made by the country's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
