Tigers Prey Residents In Bengkulu, BKSDA Installs 3 Monitoring Cameras

BENGKULU - The Bengkulu Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) has again installed three tiger traps accompanied by monitoring cameras or traps spread across two sub-districts in North Bengkulu Regency.

"There are three traps, namely one in Pinang Raya District and two in Napal Putih District. In the trap, there are monitoring cameras installed and some are not installed," said Head of the Conservation Section Region I BKSDA Bengkulu Said Jauhari when contacted by telephone, Antara, Sunday, September 29.

The installation of tiger trap tools was carried out to follow up on public reports that the Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae) had entered residential areas and preyed on livestock belonging to residents.

"The items attached to the trap equipment are goats and the rest of the cows that have been eaten by Sumatran tigers in Gembung Raya and Kinal Jaya villages, North Bengkulu Regency," he said.

According to Said, based on the results of monitoring, it was observed that two tigers were in the Districts of Napal Putih and Pinang Raya, North Bengkulu Regency.

Therefore, his party asked the public not to take action on their own if they met or saw tigers so that they could endanger themselves and the wildlife.

Previously, on Saturday, the Sector Police (Polsek) Ulok Kupai, North Bengkulu Regency received a report that there were livestock belonging to a resident of Kinal Village, Napal Putih District, which was eaten by tigers at 02.30 WIB.

In addition to preying on cattle, tigers also preyed on two dogs on Friday (20/9) and one dog on Saturday (21/9).

The Bengkulu BKSDA some time ago carried out socialization to communities in Gembung Raya Village, Napal Putih District regarding the handling of Sumatran tigers.

"BKSDA Bengkulu also conducts socialization to the community regarding the handling of negative interactions between Sumatran tigers and humans in Gembung Raya Village, North Bengkulu Regency," said Said.
