JAKARTA - The MPR RI has officially revoked MPR Decree (TAP) Number II of 2001 concerning the Accountability of Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid or Gus Dur. Gus Dur's wife, Sinta Nuriyah, welcomed the revocation of the TAP MPR.

Sinta's response was conveyed while attending a national gathering held by the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) at the Nusantara V Building, Senayan, Jakarta, Sunday, September 29.

"Allow us, the family of KH Abdurrahman Wahid or Gus Dur, to express our appreciation for the MPR's steps to revoke TAP MPR Number II/MPR/2001," said Sinta.

Sinta said that so far the TAP MPR has been a big obstacle for his family and other Indonesian people because it seems that Gus Dur is a violator of the constitution without his party being able to appeal.

"Like a rope that we can never open the knot, the burden we need to pelvic to this day. Even though with the birth of TAP Number I/MPR/2023 regarding the review of material and legal status of the MPRS provisions and the provisions of the MPR RI from 1960 to 2002, TAP MPR Number II/MPR/2001 automatically does not apply, but in reality it is still used as a reference by the government for many things," explained Sinta.

"One of them is related to the historical curriculum studied by children in schools," he continued.

Therefore, Sinta hopes that the revocation of TAP MPR Number II/MPR/2001 can be the first step in a legal basis that is more increased for the benefit of Gus Dur's rehabilitation in the future.

"We understand that the revocation of the TAP MPR together with the TAP-TAP MPR that ensnared President Soekarno and President Suharto, was intended as a step to carry out national reconciliation, which Gus Dur also fought for when leading the nation until the end of his life. However, we are of the view that reconciliation must still be based on the principle of justice, so that it can be implemented effectively, not just political pleasantries," said Sinta.

"We hope that this reconciliation can run as happened in South Africa during Nelson Mandela and what happened in Timor Leste in independence. So, our Gus Dur's family welcomes this reconciliation process with a note that it is not done half-heartedly," he concluded.
