Ahead Of The End Of The Period Plenary, Puan Hopes That The Next DPR Will Continue To Improve Yourself

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, expressed her hope that ahead of the final plenary meeting of the DPR RI for the 2019-2024 period as well as the replacement of members of the DPR for the 2024-2029 period. Puan hopes that the members of the council in the next period can be better than before.

"Of course, God willing, in the future, this DPR institution must continue to improve itself," said Puan at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Friday, September 27.

For information, the DPR RI for the 2019-2024 period will hold the last plenary meeting on Monday, September 30. Meanwhile, the inauguration of members of the DPR RI for the 2024-2029 period will take place on Tuesday, October 1.

Puan appreciated the performance of the DPR, which for five years has increased work and image. He said that the DPR under his leadership worked together and was appreciated by the community.

"So, thank you to the public that the constitutional work in this legislative institution then received appreciation that there are still shortcomings," he said.

The chairman of the PDIP DPP considers that mutual cooperation is one of the ways how the DPR RI carries out its duties and functions collectively. According to Puan, there must be a joint commitment between all parties or party representatives, namely the factions in the DPR to be able to carry out their DPR duties, namely the legislative function, budget and supervision together.

"Even if there are still shortcomings in the legislative function, the legislative function is carried out together, not only the DPR, but also through the government. And even if it has been done through existing mechanisms, measurably, and carried out as well as possible, and there may still be shortcomings, of course because it is collective-colegial, the mechanism has been carried out with a debate that I think is quite consistent and quite solid, of course in the future it must still be improved," he said.

However, Puan hopes that the next period of the DPR RI can continue to improve themselves. He stated that the DPR RI would continue to be by the people's side and continue to listen to their aspirations.

"And I hope that because the existing rules and mechanisms have been carried out, in the future there may indeed be improvements, and suggestions or inputs, of course we will listen to them," he concluded.
