Jokowi: Airport Increases Transportation Traffic For Indonesia's New Capital City

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said the existence of an airport supporting transportation for the city of Nusantara which was built in the North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan will increase the movement of vehicles (traffic) to the new capital city of Indonesia.

The airport for air transportation infrastructure facilities that are currently being built can increase traffic in the city of Nusantara and the city of Indonesia's future will be increasingly crowded.

The infrastructure supporting the transportation of the city of Nusantara is apart from the airport or Nusantara Airport, there are also toll roads that are currently in the construction stage.

This statement was conveyed by President Jokowi when laying the first stone to mark the start of a number of new physical developments in stage eight in the city of Nusantara located in Sepaku District, North Penajam Paser Regency.

"I landed at Nusantara Airport smoothly, the runway was only completed 2,200 meters, it was smooth," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, September 25.

Airport runway work up to 3,300 meters is targeted for completion in December 2024, so that wide-body aircraft can land at Nusantara Airport.

Then the work on the Nusantara Airport terminal which emphasizes Kalimantan's ethnicity or culture, explained the President, is also targeted for completion in December 2024.

With the completion of all land and air transportation facilities, it is hoped that visits to the capital city of Indonesia will increase, create a crowded ecosystem and support the development of the City of the Archipelago as a new government and economic center.

The economic and business prospects in the city of Nusantara are quite promising with a number of infrastructures and facilities that have been built, one of which is Nusantara Airport which can accommodate aircraft even though it has not been completed 100 percent.

"Infrastructure and other facilities that are still in the development stage and that have been completed will also create very promising economic and business prospects in the capital city of Indonesia's new country," said Jokowi.

"The entire infrastructure and facilities built in Indonesia's future capital are important capitals that can guarantee economic aspects, in the future the economic and business prospects of the City of Nusantara are quite promising," said President Jokowi.
