JAKARTA - Management of Trigana Air Papua increases supervision of flights in conflict areas and is prone to local areas

This was done to prevent the incident experienced by pilot Susi Air Capten Philip Mark Mehrtens from repeating itself against other pilots.

Director of Trigana Papua, Irwan Rochendi, in Sentani, Saturday (21/9), said that his party continues to provide supervision of vulnerable areas.

"Every day before the plane (Trigana Air) flies, we ask for the situation and conditions at the airport what kind of destination, then the plane can fly," he said again.

According to Irwan, his party was very careful with the safety of the pilot and flight crew at that time.

"We do not give flight permits when we find information that is not conducive or not possible, so the aircraft does not fly," he also said.

He explained that currently his party does not have small aircraft to serve pioneer flights or small airports.

"The aircraft we have is the smallest (type) Avions de Transport Regional (ATR) or (short-distance regional flights) and serves areas where there is a decent airport," he said again.

He said that his party serves flights in remote areas, including Yahukimo, Wamena, Papua Mountains Province, Tanah Merah Boven Digoel, and Asmat Regency, South Papua Province.

"We serve Papuan flights using the six airlines that currently exist, and rarely get used to areas that do not have standard airports," he said.

He is grateful that Susi Air Capten Pilot Philip Mark Mehrtens, who has been detained for 1.5 years, has been released by an armed criminal group or KKB led by Egianus Kogoya.

"Hopefully the security and public order situation (kamtibmas) in the Papua area will continue to improve, so that air transportation will continue to run smoothly," he said.

Trigana Air, which serves Papuan flights, has an ATR type that carries a maximum of 40-42 passengers.
