One Week 5 Children Killed In Israeli Attack In Lebanon, UNICEF Hit

JAKARTA - The Executive Director of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), Catherine Russell, said she was deeply concerned and devastated by the killing of children in Israel's latest attack on Lebanon.

"I was shaken by reports that at least five children were killed and several others injured in this week's attack on #Lebanon," Catherine Russell said, citing ANTARA, Sunday, September 22.

He added that at least 25 children were reported dead and more than 200 others injured in the past 11 months.

"This ecosystem puts more children at risk of death, injury, and fear. This increased hostility threatens children in Lebanon and beyond. This must be stopped immediately," added Russell.

The death toll from Israeli airstrikes on Friday (20/9) in the southern suburbs of Beirut rose to 37, according to the Lebanese health ministry.

The attack came after the Hezbollah group's handheld and quarantine devices (pagers) exploded on Tuesday and Wednesday in Lebanon, killing at least 37 people, including children.

In addition, more than 3,000 people were injured.

Israel and Hezbollah have been involved in cross-border wars since the start of Israel's deadly war in the Gaza Strip.

Israel's war on the Gaza Strip has killed more than 41,300 people, mostly women and children, following cross-border attacks by Hamas on October 7 last year.
