JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono stated that the water-care community or "Water Warrior" will act as hubs to coordinate the network of sustainable water conservation and management movements in Indonesia.

"Watter warrior is a hub, as a networking. I don't want just the theatrical action to clean the river. The river must really be cleaned. Without budget, the river will also find it difficult to clean. There is a budget, without a community caring for rivers, it will also not work," said Minister Basuki at the "Water Warriors Assemble: Indonesian Wave After The 10th World Water Forum" event in Jakarta, Saturday, September 21.

Minister Basuki said the Ministry of PUPR would allocate a special budget to support water flood activities in efforts to preserve and manage sustainable water. The budget will be channeled through the Directorate General of Water Resources and will be implemented by the river-care community.

The vision of the Indonesian Water Warrior is to empower youth to be involved in the protection and preservation of national water resources, as well as encourage Indonesia's strong and safe future against water. Through collaborative initiatives, education, advocacy, and research, water warfare will be the driving force in sustainable water management.

Minister Basuki also emphasized the importance of collaboration between water floods and more than 1,100 water communities throughout Indonesia in maintaining water sources and preventing problems such as floods, drought, and water pollution.

"We have to work together. I have said we are not, but we are the perpetrators who care about rivers and the government together to carry out the movements coordinated by this water flood," he said.
