Mount Lewotobi Men Eruption Tonight, PPG Denies Incandescent Lava Flow

Mount Lewotobi Laki Monitoring Post (PPG) reported an eruption with a height of 1,200 meters at the top of the mountain in Wulanggitang District, East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara.

"There has been an eruption of Mount Lewotobi Men-Laki NTT on September 19 at 20.25 WITA with a height of ash column being observed at approximately 1,200 meters at the top," said Mount Lewotobi Men's Monitoring Post Officer Herman Yosef S Mboro as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, September 19.

In the report, it is stated that the ash column height is approximately 2,284 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity leaning towards the southwest and west.

"This eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 47.3 millimeters and a duration of approximately two minutes 53 seconds," he said.

He explained that the 1,200-meter-high eruption at the top of the mountain had not yet emitted incandescent lava and the material was still around the crater of the mountain which is currently still in level III or standby status.

"There is only incandescent material that is still around the crater," he said.

Regarding the picture from residents showing the flow of lava, Herman denied it and said it was not a lava flow, because PPG had clear documentation.
