West Java Provincial Government Calls Severe Congestion In Puncak Bogor Due To Over Capacity

JAKARTA - The West Java Provincial Government said that the congestion that occurred in the Puncak Bogor area on Sunday (15/9) was purely due to the excessive capacity in the area from roads to tourist access that could not accommodate the number of visitors who came.

"Congestion in Bogor, purely due to overcapacity, traffic arrangements carried out every holiday period have not been effective because movements have been jammed, locking each other," said West Java Provincial Secretary Herman Suryatman when confirmed in Bandung, Monday.

In addition, he said, there are many small alternative access roads to the Puncak Bogor area that are usually used by motorbike riders, thus adding to the difficulty of officers in implementing the road closure opening system.

"The number of alternative roads to or from the summit also makes it difficult to regulate traffic opening closings, especially regulating two-wheeled movements," he said as reported by Antara.

Actually, he said, transportation authority in peak areas is the responsibility of the Jabodetabek Transportation Management Agency (BPTJ), while West Java Province helps.

Meanwhile, the Head of the West Java Transportation Service, Koswara, said that so far traffic regulation in the Puncak Bogor area can only be done by opening and closing.

"One way to solve it must be added accessibility, road infrastructure. If it is not added, the arrangements made by the police or Transportation Agency will not work, because it has been overloaded," said Koswara.

Traffic arrangements in the Puncak Bogor area, he said, were under the authority of the police, while transportation was at BPTJ.

"If the Provincial Transportation Agency doesn't actually get to traffic arrangements there, yes. Then, with the authority of the peak, Bogor or Bodebek for transportation, there are more BPTJ arrangements, we support BPTJ policies more," he said.

The Bogor Police Traffic Unit recorded as many as 140 thousand vehicles ranging from two wheels to six wheels crossing the Puncak tourist route for 24 hours on Sunday (15/9).

In the traffic jam, it was reported that one tourist from Bambu Apus, East Jakarta with the initials NM (56) died, allegedly due to exhaustion while on vacation in the tourist area.
