Sukabumi Residents Victims Of TIP In Cambodia Reportedly Died

SUKABUMI - A victim of a criminal act of trafficking in persons (TPPO) from Parungseahberong Village, Sukabumi Regency, West Java, who died in Cambodia named Syamsul Diana Ahmad (30) is suspected of being an online or online gambling operator.

"The victim who lives in Parungseah Village, Sukabumi Subdistrict was initially promised to work in Singapore. However, in reality he was dispatched to Cambodia and in that country Syamsul must become an online gambling operator," said the chairman of the Sukabumi Indonesian Migrant Workers Union (SBMI), General Nurjanah, quoted by ANTARA, Saturday.

According to Jejen, the victim left for Cambodia initially invited by his Cambodian counterpart to work in Singapore and departed a few months ago. However, it is not clear when to be precise.

However, Syamsul's only plane transited in Singapore, then continued its journey to Cambodia. After arriving in the country nicknamed Angkor Wat, the victim was picked up by his colleague.

The family did not know the type of work for Syamsul, only when he asked permission to go to work, the victim said to his parents he would work in Singapore.

While in Cambodia, the young man was placed in a house with several people who worked as online gambling operators.

After several months of work, on August 2, 2024, suddenly unconscious while in a shelter, then rushed to the hospital.

From the results of a medical examination at a hospital in Cambodia, the victim was declared dead of a heart attack.

The SBMI who received the report then coordinated with the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy at Phnom Penh.

"Alhamdulillah, the body was finally able to be returned to his hometown and arrived on Friday night. We also thank all agencies who have helped repatriate Syamsul's body," he added.

Meanwhile, Parungseah Village Head M. Munir said that his family received news that Syamsul had died from his colleague by telephone.

The victim died in a shelter due to a heart attack.

He explained that the time for the repatriation of the bodies which reached 43 days was due to a long process and involved various parties such as the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI), the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Indonesian Embassy in Cambodia, and the Sukabumi Regency Manpower and Transmigration Service (Disnakertrans) and SBMI Sukabumi.

Syamsul left abroad to try his luck with Singapore because he was invited by his friend who was already there. But it turns out, not Singapore, but Cambodia.
