DPR: Bill On Wantimpres For Strengthening The President

JAKARTA - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, said that the discussion of the Draft Law on Amendments to Law Number 19 of 2006 concerning Wantimpres (RUU Wantimpres) was rolling to strengthen the elected president in the future in obtaining various considerations.

"Yes, so the Wantimpres Law is revised to strengthen so that later the elected president can get considerations from the Presidential Advisory Council," Dasco said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, September 13.

He conveyed this in response to the issue of the Wantimpres Bill being rolled out in parliament to accommodate President Joko Widodo to sit as Wantimpres after he no longer served as head of state.

He said the mechanism for filling the Wantimpres seat would follow the existing provisions in the bill.

"Regarding the mechanism, we leave it to the law and then it was knocked yesterday, that's the existing mechanism," he said.

However, Dasco has not been able to confirm whether Jokowi is included in the Wantimpres seat because the discussion is still ongoing.

"Yes, if that's the case I can't answer right now because everything has not been final," he said.

Previously, the Legislation Body (Baleg) of the DPR and the government agreed to continue the discussion of the Wantimpres Bill on Level II talks at the DPR Plenary Meeting to be ratified into law.

The approval was taken at the Plenary Meeting of Level I decision making on the Wantimpres Bill at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday (10/9).
