Bareskrim Polri Investigate Menpora's Report On Alleged Misappropriation Of PON XXI Aceh And North Sumatra

The Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police will examine reports regarding alleged misappropriation of financial management in the implementation of the XXI National Sports Week (PON) in Aceh and North Sumatra.

The follow-up to the alleged fraud has been coordinated by the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Dito Ariotedjo, with the task force.

"Regarding the report, we will conduct a study and clarification first," said Deputy Director of Corruption Crimes at Bareskrik Polri, Kombes Arief Adiharsa to VOI, Wednesday, September 11.

Allegations of fraud are related to inadequate infrastructure, accommodation, and services to athletes.

Moreover, previously there was a viral video showing volleyball sports athletes who had to pass through the puddles to enter the venue.

The Assistance Task Force is a joint team from the Directorate of Corruption Crimes at Bareskrim Polri and Polda that oversees financial management in the implementation of these sports activities.

"In the context of prevention and assistance so that XXI PON activities are carried out and there are no irregularities in financial management," said Arief.

Meanwhile, PON XXI 2024 will be the first to be held in two provinces at once. This year PON took 65 sports, 87 disciplines, and 1,042 match numbers.

This biggest national sporting event also marks the debut of four New Autonomous Regions (DOB). The regions in question are Southwest Papua, Mountains Papua, Central Papua, and South Papua, as well as a contingent from the capital city of the archipelago (IKN).

A total of approximately 13 thousand athletes from various regions compete in the biggest sporting event in Indonesia. This event will officially open on Monday, September 9, 2024, WIB night and last until September 20, 2024.
