JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) welcomes the option of the Special Committee (Pansus) for Hajj DPR to investigate allegations of corruption in the implementation of the 2024 Hajj. The team is ready to be deployed if requested.

This was conveyed by KPK spokesman Tessa Mahardika in response to the DPR's Hajj Rights Special Committee which considers the involvement of law enforcement officials to investigate allegations of irregularities in the additional hajj quota.

"KPK is also open and ready if the Hajj Special Committee wants to work together to investigate the allegations," said KPK spokesman Tessa Mahardika to reporters in a written statement, Tuesday, September 10.

Furthermore, the anti-corruption commission appreciates the steps taken by the Special Committee for Hajj Rights which have held meetings to sudden inspections. Tessa said, this step needs to be taken so that the government, in this case the Ministry of Religion, can provide fair Hajj services for the community, without any corruption.

"This step is important so that the government, in this case the Ministry of Religion, can bring justice in the implementation of Hajj services without corruption," said Tessa.

As previously reported, Member of the Special Committee for Hajj, Wisnu Wijaya, said that the option to involve law enforcers, namely the KPK and the National Police, surfaced after the investigation was carried out. "The involvement of law enforcement officers is expected to clarify various indications of irregularities found," he said in a written statement, Sunday, September 8.

This PKS politician also revealed that the DPR's Hajj Special Committee regretted the attitude of the Ministry of Religion which was recently considered uncooperative during the investigation process.

Wisnu said a number of officials from the Ministry of Religion who were summoned by the special committee were absent, there were allegations of giving false statements and/or documents by previous witnesses, as well as allegations of pressure experienced by witnesses.

The KPK has now received five reports from the public regarding the alleged corruption of the hajj quota at the Ministry of Religion. The anti-corruption agency ensures that it will review every report that comes in.
