New York Judge Postpones Trump's Sentence Until After Election

JAKARTA - Judge Juan Merchant in New York on Friday (6/9) postponed the verdict of the case of silence against former US President Donald Trump until after the election to ensure the vote was not affected by his decision, and vice versa.

"The postponement of decisions and the imposition of penalties, if necessary, must avoid the impression that the Court will make a decision or impose a sentence with the intention of giving profits to, or causing losses to certain political parties or any candidate," wrote Merchant.

Meanwhile, Trump considers the verdict to be postponed "because everyone is aware that there ARE NO CASES, I DIDN'T MAKE ANY MISTAKES!"

"This case should end soon, when we prepare for the most important election in the history of our country," said the upload on his Truth Social platform.

Trump was convicted in May of 34 counts of crimes related to payment of covert money to adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign.

He is the first US president to be convicted of criminal charges. The US Supreme Court last month gave Trump substantial immunity from prosecution for election subversion charges related to the January 6, 2021 attacks on the Capitol. The Supreme Court did not give him immunity over the steps he took as a candidate.
