Gantkan Risma, Jokowi Appoints Muhadjir Effendy As Acting Minister Of Social Affairs

JAKARTA - Indonesian President Joko Widodo appointed Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy as Acting Minister of Social Affairs.

The appointment follows the approval of Tri Rismaharini's resignation from the position of Minister of Social Affairs because he was running as Governor and Deputy Governor of East Java 2024.

"The president appointed Mr. Muhadjir Effendy, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, as the Acting Officer, Authority, and Responsibility of the Minister of Social Affairs until the appointment of the Minister of Social Affairs was definitive," said Presidential Special Staff Coordinator Ari Dwipayana Friday, September 6.

Ari said that Risma's dismissal from the position of Minister of Social Affairs was stated in Presidential Decree Number 100/P of 2024 concerning Respectful Dismissal of Tri Rismaharini as Minister of Social Affairs for the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet 2019-2024 accompanied by thanks for her dedication and services to the nation and state during her tenure.

The Presidential Decree, said Ari, is a follow-up to Tri Rismaharini's resignation as Minister of Social Affairs which has been approved by the President.

"The application for the resignation of Mrs. Tri Rismaharini is related to the nomination and registration of the person concerned as a candidate for governor in the East Java Pilkada," he said.

Muhadjir had previously served as Plt. The Minister of Social Affairs in 2020. At that time Muhadjir filled the seat of Minister of Social Affairs because Social Minister Juliari Peter Batubara was named a suspect by the KPK in the alleged case of receiving something by state officials.

Previously reported, Indonesian President Joko Widodo previously stated that he had approved the resignation of Tri Rismaharini from the position of Minister of Social Affairs because he was running for the 2024 Pilkada.

"It has... submitted a resignation and I have signed his resignation," said Jokowi briefly on the sidelines of a working visit in Surabaya, East Java, Friday.
