JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Education Office has made strict rules for food and beverage sellers operating in the school environment. This is done to prevent additional cases of kidney failure in children.

Acting Head of the DKI Jakarta Education Office, Budi Awaluddin, emphasized that one of these provisions is to avoid foods that contain too much sugar, salt and fat (GGL).

"Also avoid unpleasant or moldy foods, pay attention to expired foods, separate raw and mature foods, keep food ingredients clean and how to store food, including food safety certification and operational permits," Budi said in his statement, Friday, September 6.

Budi emphasized that Disdik DKI will impose sanctions on sellers who violate regulations, such as revocation of permits to sell in schools or fines.

On the one hand, the DKI Education Office increases food health education to students with periodic socialization to all schools in Jakarta.

Disdik DKI will also provide learning materials that are integrated with materials on health and nutrition in the school curriculum, especially for elementary and junior high school levels.

"So, students can understand the importance of eating and drinking which is nutritious from an early age in order to avoid various diseases," said Budi.

Previously, Commission B of the DKI Jakarta DPRD asked the DKI Provincial Government to tighten supervision of snacks around schools. Secretary of Commission B of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Wa Ode Herlina, said this was necessary to reduce the number of cases of kidney failure in children.

One way is to socialize the use of food ingredients sold by traders free from harmful content.

"Gives information to sellers to avoid artificial sweeteners, preservatives, and then artificial dyes," said Wa Ode at the DKI Jakarta DPRD Building, Wednesday, August 14.

Currently, 60 children are undergoing kidney failure therapy at the Cipto Mangunkusumo National General Hospital (RSCM), which is a referral hospital for child kidney cases.
