Polemic Of Palu City Government To Change Street Names, Regional House of Representative: Don't Change It Right Away

PALU - Members of the Palu City's Regional House of Representative (DPRD) criticized the Palu City Government's policy of changing the names of a number of roads in the provincial capital of Central Sulawesi. Changing the name of the street is said to have ignored various aspects.

A member of Commission A of Palu Regional House of Representative (DPRD) who is also the Chairperson of the PDI-P Faction of the Palu City DPRD, Achmad Alaydrus, assessed that the Palu City Government's steps were not in accordance with the procedure because it did not involve residents living around the road segment.

“Don't just change the name of the street, it must involve the residents who live there and with their consent. The road name change must be stated in a Regional Regulation (Perda),” he said in Palu as quoted by Antara, Sunday, March 28.

Achmad Alaydrus stated that the Palu City Government policy was complained about and was not approved by local residents. The reason is that apart from not involving the residents, the changing of the name of the street also had an impact on the change in the address listed on the Identity Card (KTP) and Family Card (KK) as well as the house and land certificates for the residents.

"So the local community is troubled because they have to change their Residential Identity Card (KTP), Family Card (KK), land and house certificates. Moreover, they never agreed to change the name of the street because the Palu City Government never involved residents around," continued Achmad.

Therefore, Achmad hopes that in the future the Palu City Government can consider the impact of changing street names in Palu City more on the residents.

"Don't let the street name change to be detrimental only to the community," he said.

The City Government of Palu adopted a policy of changing the names of two roads in the city. Two sections of the road that were changed include Nokilalaki Street being changed to Borobudur Street and  Anoa 2 Street being changed to Lalove Street.
