3,000 TNI And Polri Personnel Deployed During Pope Francis' Visit To Indonesia

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian Bishops' Conference (KWI) Antonius Subianto Bunjamin revealed that around 3,000 TNI and Polri personnel will be deployed for security during the visit of World Catholic Church Leader Pope Francis to Indonesia on September 3-6, 2024.

In addition, there will be thousands of volunteers who will participate for the smooth running of these historic activities.

"The number of security personnel from the TNI and Polri reached more than 3,000, especially in the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area of Jakarta," said Antonius Subianto Bunjamin, in his statement.

Antonius believes that the peak event at GBK will not cause traffic problems, especially because of recommended work from home (WFH) from the government.

For Pope Francis' visit to the Istiqlal Mosque and the Cathedral Church, Antonius said a different day had been chosen for the two activities, in order to avoid crowds so that the event could take place more orderly and smoothly.

"The visit to Istiqlal and Cathedral has been scheduled for a different day. The meeting at the Cathedral will take place on September 4 afternoon, while visits to Istiqlal are scheduled for September 5 morning," said Antonius.
