Prevent Polio In War Areas, Vaccination Will Be Held In Gaza At The End Of August

JAKARTA - To tackle polio cases in war-torn areas, the Palestinian Ministry of Health on Friday, August 23 announced plans for a massive polio vaccination campaign in the Gaza Strip by the end of August.

The ministry said it had completed a vaccination plan that included the organizing medical team, vaccination centers, training in collaboration with UNRWA, the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF and other international organizations and local organizations.

The vaccination campaign will target all children under the age of 10 and will be carried out in two stages with a four-week gap. The approach is designed to effectively eradicate the spread of the polio virus in Gaza and contain the outbreak.

About 1.6 million doses will be used to vaccinate more than 640,000 children, according to the Ministry, which has so far set up 400 vaccination centers.

Quoted from ANTARA, the Ministry stressed its commitment to the success of the polio vaccination campaign and urged international organizations to pressure Israeli authorities to stop their aggression in Gaza.

This will allow the medical team to effectively vaccinate children with a target of more than 95 percent.

Furthermore, the Ministry also urged Gazans to cooperate with the medical team and visit a referral vaccination center to help prevent further spread of the virus and try to eradicate polio.
