JAKARTA - The Indonesian Student Association (PPI) of China asked the Indonesian House of Representatives to comply with the Constitutional Court's decision no. 60/PUU-XXII/2024 and No. 70/PUU-XXII/2024 regarding the judicial review of the Regional Head Election Law (Pilkada).

"The decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) is a decision that should be final and binding on all levels of society," said PPI China General Chair Bunga Candra Purnama, quoted from Antara, Saturday, August 24.

"As representatives of the people, the DPR needs to understand these constitutional principles and not take actions that violate the provisions of the Constitutional Court," he said in a statement by the Chinese PPI in response to efforts to revise the Pilkada Law by the DPR RI which sparked protests and demonstrations from various elements of society in a number of cities in Indonesia.

"Democracy is a fundamental part of the life of the Indonesian state. We encourage all parties to maintain and respect the democratic norms in Indonesia," Bunga added.

The Chinese PPI also underlined its attitude that upholds the right of every citizen to express opinions, criticisms, and suggestions for the good and progress of the Indonesian people.

"Therefore, we encourage all parties not to use violence in any form throughout the democratic process," said Bunga.

The statement letter of attitude is said to have been prepared based on observations of the political process in the Pilkada Law which sparked massive demonstrations and led to potential abuse of power.

PPT China also said that it had conducted studies and analysis of the 1945 Constitution as the highest legal source for the Indonesian state that all parties must comply with and open discussions with the external and internal parties of the Chinese PPI, as well as build mutual agreement and understanding with all branches.

"The branches scattered throughout China believe that the voices of students in China are purely the voice of the people for the progress of the Indonesian nation," said Bunga.

PPI China consists of a combination of 30 PPIs in various cities in China.
