JAKARTRA - Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham) Supratman Andi Agtas assessed that the issue that the President would issue a Government Regulation in Lieu of the Pilkada Law (Perpu) after the DPR RI canceled ratifying the Draft Pilkada Law was too dramatized. "This is too dramatic," said Supratman after attending a meeting with Commission III of the DPR RI at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Antara, Friday, August 24. Because, he admitted that he had not heard about the discourse and did not see any attempt to issue the Pilkada Perpu. "Until today I have not heard about it, this is the first time I have heard of it and until today there has been no attempt to go that way," he said. The Ministry of Law and Human Rights has not received any direction from the President after the DPR RI canceled the ratification of the Pilkada Bill. It will only follow the legislative process that is rolling in the DPR RI regarding the Pilkada Bill, as well as the postponement of the Plenary Meeting which was originally scheduled to ratify the bill into law. "If the government is once again in the realm of the DPR in order to schedule yesterday. Well, with the DPR having stated that this has been postponed to the Plenary Meeting, then of course the government will participate because there is no other choice, that is what we all hope for," he said. Supratman is also reluctant to speculate that the Indonesian House of Representatives will continue to discuss the Pilkada Bill with the government. "Don't assume that the statement was very firm last night from the leadership of the DPR. So don't make assumptions," he said. Meanwhile, when asked about the President's response to the demonstration against the Pilkada Bill being passed into law, he said it was the domain of the President's spokesman. "Surely the President gave a response through a spokesman, yes, but if it's related to others I haven't heard of it, it's represented by a spokesman," he said. Previously, Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, confirmed that the ratification of the Pilkada Bill was canceled. He ensured that the registration of regional head candidates on August 27, 2024, would implement the Constitutional Court's decision.
