Pilkada Bill Canceled Ratification So Law, Menkumham: DPR's Statement Is Firm

JAKARTA - Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham) Supratman Andi Agtas also ensured that the revision of the Pilkada Law would not be ratified into law. According to Supratman, the statement from the leadership of the DPR RI last night stated that there was no ratification of the Pilkada Bill ahead of the Cakada registration to the KPU on August 27. "The statement (about the Pilkada Bill) was very firm last night at the DPR," said Supratman at the DPR RI Building, Senayan, Jakarta, Friday, August 23. Supratman emphasized that the government will follow the DPR's decision to postpone the decision-making meeting on the Pilkada Bill. The decision, he said, was also a public hope. "With the DPR having stated that this matter has been postponed, so of course the government will join. Because there is no other choice, that is still the hope of all of us, right," he said. However, Supratman was reluctant to speculate that the opportunity to revise the Pilkada Law would be passed in the next period. He considered that it would be better for the public to wait for a decision regarding the next Prolegnas. "If the next period can be seen later, in the upcoming National Legislation Program," he concluded. Previously, Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, guaranteed that there would be no agenda for ratifying the Pilkada Draft Law (RUU) secretly after it was canceled at the plenary meeting on Thursday morning. He said that according to the rules of order, plenary meetings could only be held on Tuesday or Thursday. Thus, said Dasco, there will be no ratification of the Pilkada Bill to the registration of regional head candidates in the Pilkada on August 27, 2024.

"Therefore, in accordance with the applicable mechanism; if you want another plenary session, you must follow the stages regulated in accordance with the rules in the DPR," Dasco said during a press conference at the DPR Building, Jakarta, Thursday, August 22, evening.
