Forward To Pilkada, UBT Chancellor Adri Patton Resigns

TARAKAN - Chancellor of the University of Borneo Tarakan (UBT) North Kalimantan (Kaltara), Prof. Adri Patton resigned from his position.

Adri Patton's resignation letter has been submitted to the Chancellor of Mulawarman University, East Kalimantan (Kaltim), and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, last week.

Prof. Adri Patton emphasized that his resignation was to show his seriousness in entering politics and pressure from several parties, one of which was from the Student Executive Board (BEM). His tenure as Chancellor is still running for the next six months.

"As a good knight and citizen, I resign as Chancellor. I have political rights, which are chosen and voted," he said, Monday, August 19.

"That's right, I was asked but there has been no declaration, I am a knight but accused of supporting one of the candidates, even though there are no candidates because the KPU must determine the constitution," he continued.

This attitude was taken to prove that the accusation from BEM was not true. Moreover, he has not been appointed as a candidate for regional head by the KPU.

"Students knocked on my knights, so I showed that I have submitted my resignation from the chancellor. Even though I am or not in politics," said Adri Patton.

According to him, this attitude is to prove that he is obedient to the applicable laws and regulations.

"The important thing is that I have done my best for Kaltara, especially for UBT," he said.

Adri Patton explained that he had carried out human resource development.

"There are thousands in Kaltara who graduated from UBT, regarding the flighter I was paired with Andi Sulaiman and went viral on social media. It was not on my orders," he explained.

Adri Patton admitted that he had known Andi Sulaiman since serving as Kabinda Kaltara.

"Besides Kabinda, I have been in touch with Mr. Zainal, Mr. Yansen. Did I violate the law, the important thing is that I left UBT well, I have made changes since 2017 until now, even though my retirement is still 6 months away," he said.

While waiting for the rector (Pj) he will complete his duties as Chancellor.

"Until there is a new rector who will be sworn in on March 22, 2025. In less than 1 month, I will leave UBT and return to Unmul. But if someone asks me to be ready, when I retire early with respect, I am ready to be proposed to the North Kalimantan regional election," he concluded.
