1,362 People Affected By Floods In 2 Districts Of Aceh Jaya

Flood conditions in Aceh Jaya Regency, Aceh, Monday 19 August 2024

JAKARTA - Floods inundated Aceh Jaya Regency, Aceh Province, on Sunday, August 18 afternoon, at around 16.15 WIB. The flood caused by the overflowing of this river affected 1,362 people. Based on data compiled by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), as of Monday 19 August, this flood inundated three villages in two sub-districts. These villages include Sapek Village and Meudheun Village in Jaya District and Meuddang Ghon Village in Indra Jaya District. "At least 378 families were recorded as affected by flooding with water levels ranging from 20 to 40 centimeters," said Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari, in his statement, Monday afternoon. In response to this incident, Abdul continued, the Aceh Jaya Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reportedly established a unit of post tents in Gampong for temporary evacuation and other evacuation with a total of two refugees that houses 670 people. In addition to setting up tents, the local BPBD also deployed a Rapid Response Team (TRC) to carry out rapid assessments at flood-prone points.

In addition, to evacuate affected residents, BPBD also deployed rubber boats and deployed teams to monitor in the field including rainfall, water level, and potential risks for further flooding.

The latest condition states that light rain will still occur until early this morning. The Meudheun river water discharge was observed to have fallen 160 centimeters from the peak of the flood, although it was still above the normal water level. Road access conditions are still difficult to pass because the rain is still pouring down several affected areas. However, BPBD is still on standby and deploying teams in the field.
