Jessica Kumala Wongso, convicted of cyanide coffee murder, was released from the Pondok Bambu Women's Correctional Institution (LP), East Jakarta. The release was carried out at 09.00 am, Sunday 18 August. Class II A Jakarta Women's Correctional Institution has not shown any special guard regarding the release of Jessica Kumala Wongso. Jessica's family or relatives also appeared to be present at the prison. Meanwhile, the media crew has filled the entire prison area to capture this moment. According to Jessica's lawyer, Otto Hasibuan, today's release was a conditional release after Jessica received a remission of her sentence due to good and polite behavior.

Jessica Kumala Wongso, who was sentenced to 20 years in 2016, has only served a sentence of approximately 8 years until 2024. Thus, she should have just been released from custody in 2036, in accordance with the initial verdict. Jessica Kumala Wongso was previously convicted of the 2016 murder of Wayan Mirna Salihin. This case emerged to the public for involving cyanide poison in the murder that occurred on January 6, 2016 at Olivier Cafe, Grand Indonesia. Wayan Mirna Salihin died after drinking Vietnamese coffee ice ordered by Jessica at the cafe.
