Demand For Ransom Not Responded To, Persecutors Of Indonesian Citizens In Myanmar Threaten To Amputate The Victim's Hands And Feet

JAKARTA - Yohana, the mother of the alleged victim of torture and confinement in Myanmar, named Suhendri alias Hendri (39) admitted that she was worried about her baby's condition.

He said the perpetrator threatened to amputate Hendri's hands and feet if the ransom of Rp. 500 million was not fulfilled by the family.

"Yes, it will be attached (if not redeemed in the near future)," said Yohana when met at her home, Petukangan area, Pesanggrahan, South Jakarta, Sunday, August 11.

Meanwhile, Daniel Hendri's cousin asked the government to help return his brother to Indonesia.

"If it's from the police, it's not the realm (reducing Hendri). We have consulted, the authority is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, BP2MI, the Indonesian Embassy," he said.

For your information, Hendri (39) is suspected of being a victim of the Crime of Trafficking in Persons (TPPO).

The victim was lured by his job in Thailand with a salary of IDR 150 million.

The victim's cousin Daniel (39) said that initially Hendri became a victim of TIP starting when Hendri was invited by a working friend at a stock company in the Jakarta area, Risky.

"10,000 USD. Facilities are borne, eat, drink, all covered. Thailand, Bangkok for the first time, "said Daniel when he was visited at his home in the Petukangan area, Pesanggrahan, South Jakarta, Friday, August 9.

Hearing the big lure, Hendri was interested and his parents agreed. Hendri was dispatched to Bangkok, Thailand on July 11, 2024 from Soekarno-Hatta Airport (Soetta) at 12.35 WIB.

Then, the victim arrived in Bangkok on the same day at 16.05 local time. Arriving at the location, Hendri was still able to communicate with Risky about his presence in Thailand.

"For the next 4 days until the 14th, Hendri still has communication, maybe on the way. Even he was there a day, when he was early until he met Risky," he said.

In short, Hendri was asked to get into the car by someone in which there were 4 people from India. Hendri was taken to an apartment.

In one car there is Risky, Hendri, and four Indians. Arriving at the middle of the road, he separated. This Indian person joined Hendri. " he said.

"Hendri thought he wanted to be taken to Maesot, it turned out that 8 hours of travel did not arrive. Suddenly in Myanmar, he was taken to a building in the form of a flat," he continued.

Arriving at the location, Hendri was still able to report his condition. But at that time, he immediately asked his family for help because he was tortured.

At first, Hendri just said he apologized for asking for help. "I will soon ask for a ransom of around 30 thousand USD (IDR 500 million)," he said.

Furthermore, said Daniel, if the family does not give money to the alleged perpetrator who is a Malaysian citizen, Hendri is persecuted, beaten by a baseball bat so that he is not fed and drank.

"Insisted, basically every cellphone he is active. So he calls his friend. And the risk is he is big if his cellphone is active. If there are no results from the family, in the sense that money comes in, he is tortured. Until he is beaten with a golf club, a baseball bat," he said.
