DPD Members Write To Metro Police Chief Asking For Action On Aceh's Kencatikan Waria Contest

JAKARTA - A DPD member from Aceh, Sudirman, wrote to the Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Karyoto who asked to take action on a transgender beauty contest. It is suspected that there was an element of insult because one of the participants used a parallel that read Aceh.

"Transmitting a letter of follow-up report on the aspirations of the community, ulama and community leaders in Aceh related to beauty providers in a hotel in Jakarta. That we ask the Polda Metro Jaya in this case to follow up on this incident in this case," Sudirman told reporters, Friday, August 9.

According to him, the beauty pageant caused the anger of the Acehnese. Especially with the writing on the side of the ship, it is considered to have defamed the city with the nickname Serambi of Mecca.

Moreover, Aceh does not recognize transgender or open dress methods like those in the contest.

"Because of what we saw and community leaders became very angry in Aceh and there was a polemic that the representation of the contest participants was calling themselves and the Aceh was making a lot of noise," he said.

"So this has become an unstoppable polemic in Aceh. So all Acehnese people protest, ulama, community leaders, government figures for what? Sepelpang Aceh," continued Sudirman.

In the letter sent, continued Sudirman, there were four that became an emphasis.

First, regarding the implementation of the transgender or tanspuan contest which was held at the Orchardz hotel, Central Jakarta, on August 4, 2024, which also featured participants along with Aceh as winners of the contest.

Then, the winner of the contest bearing the name Aceh has caused a commotion and reaction from the people of Aceh with various assumptions including insults to Aceh and attempts to clash Aceh as a province that has special authority to implement Islamic Sharia.

Third, in terms of bringing the name Aceh to certain activities outside the province of Aceh, it must go through the processes and mechanisms set by the Aceh Government which cannot be separated from local wisdom and Islamic law, so that the representation of participants for such activities is certainly not allowed to represent Aceh.

Finally, the request to the Metro Jaya Police Chief to take action against the alleged insult is in accordance with the legislation and to take precautions at a later date through crowd licensing of activities that are participants in the nature of participating in representing the Aceh province to require the implementation of activities to attach recommendations from the Aceh Government.
