A Year Emergency Hospital Wisma Atlet: Athlete Lodging Transformed Into COVID-19 Treatment

JAKARTA - The COVID-19 Emergency Hospital (RSDC) Wisma Atlet has entered one year of operation. Before it was inaugurated on March 23, 2020, Wisma Atlet was a place to stay for sports activists who competed during the Asian Games 2018.

Until finally, the COVID-19 pandemic entered Indonesia, the government made the athlete's homestead a place of care and isolation for residents infected with COVID-19.

In the annual commemoration of the Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital, the Chairperson of the COVID-19 Handling Task Force Doni Monardo appreciated the participation and support in handling COVID-19 by symbolically handing over a certificate of appreciation to one of the health workers.

"Give the highest appreciation to doctors, nurses, medical personnel, from all over the country for this extraordinary struggle", said Doni in his statement, Tuesday, March 23.

The head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) advised that the health workers at Wisma Atlet should always be enthusiastic and never give up against the current pandemic.

"The spirit of never giving up to always provide the best service to the community must be in our hearts and chests of every Indonesian citizen", he said.

As of today, there has been a reduction in the level of filling of beds for the care of COVID-19 patients at the Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital, Kemayoran. Currently, its use is 37.2 percent, so that 62.8 percent of the beds are unoccupied by patients.

Head of Information for Kogabwilhan I, Colonel Marinir Aris Mudian said that as of today, 66 people have left the Wisma Atlet as COVID-19 isolation patients.

"There are 2,230 inpatients at the Wisma Atlet Hospital from 5,994 beds. Initially, 2,296 people were being treated, and today it has decreased by 66 people", said Aris in his statement, Wednesday, March 24.

In detail, there are 1,132 women and 1,098 men. They are undergoing isolation in Towers 4, 5, 6, and 7 of the Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital.

So, since the beginning it was used as a place of isolation on March 23, 2020, until now, Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital for COVID-19 has been treating 75,632 patients.

"There were 73,402 patients discharged, with details of 72,573 patients recovered, 742 were referred to other hospitals, and 87 people died", he said.

Currently, all isolation patients being treated at Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital Kemayoran are people who have symptoms of COVID-19, both mild and moderate.
